ccording to the thesis of Mr Alain Gigot, the church, belonging to the district, was classified as an historical monument as early as 1837 and added to the additional inventory of historical monuments in 1927. The cloister and the facade, as the roof, were only classified in 1951.
The organ of JEAN BOIZARD was classified in 1950.
n 1971 a great fire engulfed once again the church and the buildings. Once more the heat made the bells melt, the wooden frame collapsed destroying in the process a superb monumental staircase, and the southern aisle was devastated. But under the leadership of MAURICE BRUGNON, then mayor of Saint-Michel, and of JEAN-LUC CAILLOT President of the young chamber of commerce of Hirson, a long reconstruction and restoration process was initiated in 1981 and new bells were inaugurated in 1999.
